Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye, from the Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery in Frankfort. The mashbill is 38% corn, 51% Rye and 11% malted barley. F bottle code, bottled 2015.

The Van Winkle Rye reportedly started as a single-source whiskey, rumoured to be Medley distillate. When stocks wained the Medley was tanked and mixed 50/50 with Cream of Kentucky Rye whiskey then bottled in limited quantities for each annual release. The F batch is believed to be the second last of this 50/50 Medley / Cream of Kentucky mix, there was no 2017 release as Buffalo Trace were waiting for new stocks to reach the 13 year benchmark.

Tasting notes; spicy and sweet, caramel, prune, dates and thick biscuity oak.
