Wild Turkey Master Keep 17 Year Old is the oldest whiskey Wild Turkey has released to date. It is unusual in that during its 17 years of ageing it reduced in proof as opposed to gaining it. Entering the barrels in 1998 at 107 proof it was bottled at cask strength in 2015 at 43.4% / 86.8 PROOF. This drop in ABV was the result of ageing taking place in a cooler and more damp environment than many other whiskeys. Master Distiller Eddie Russell moved the whiskey between stone and wood warehouses because the company ran out of storage capacity and was forced to age the barrels in brick rickhouses at the Old Crow Distillery, located in a low lying valley. The barrels were then moved a number of times and eventually made their way back to the wood and metal rickhouses at the Wild Turkey Distillery.
Tasting notes; starts out smooth and silky, transforms into a caramel, vanilla sweetness, and finishes with savoury spiciness and oak.
